People are generally confused about three similar conditions-- PCO, PCOS and PCOD. PCO is nothing but Polycystic ovaries showing up on the ultrasound. Cysts, like water cysts etc, are very common. They often come and go without causing much inconvenience. PCOD is Polycystic ovary disorder, which is characterized by follicular and cystic growth in the cysts. A more serious version of this issue is when the disorder becomes a syndrome, when it becomes a metabolic condition that adversely affects the process of ovulation. This is called as Polycystic ovary syndrome, or PCOS. This leads to irregular menstruation, among other things and is an irreversible condition whose symptoms can be managed by lifestyle changes
